Hi Pete. Your dissatisfaction is justified! There is so much suffering in this world that one has every right to question it. The ancient texts suggest that suffering is not necessarily a bad thing.
Suffering teaches us things that happiness can’t, and it’s just a learning experience. Just like a caterpillar develops into a butterfly only by going through the struggle of emerging from the cocoon, struggles in life develop our character, intelligence and personality.
It also mentions that happiness is not necessarily a good thing either, as it may just make us complacent. Either way, happiness and suffering are learning experiences created by us in the past, called karma.
