Krishna Wisdom Launches the Cows and Farm Retreat

On Saturday, 19th April, Krishna Wisdom launched an exciting new initiative—the Cows and Farm Retreat—at Bhaktivedanta Manor. This retreat was created to attract individuals who are drawn to nature, simple living, and high thinking, offering them a unique opportunity to connect with the land, cows, and the deeper values of Krishna consciousness.
The retreat aimed to reach an audience that might not typically attend kirtans or yoga classes, offering a more nature-based, hands-on spiritual experience. Being in harmony with nature is an essential aspect of Krishna consciousness, and this retreat gave participants a chance to live that principle in a very real and tangible way.
Around 15 participants joined us for the day. After a warm welcome, we began with a short health and safety orientation and a spiritual reflection to set the tone. The group then geared up in steel-toe boots and headed to the goshala, where we picked up shovels to help spread fresh straw for the cows and bulls, clean the area, and collect cow dung. Everyone worked together to create a comfortable new bedding area for the cows, which was both joyful and grounding.
Next, we moved to the back of the barn to brush and massage the retired cows—an experience that turned out to be deeply therapeutic, not just for the cows, but also for the participants. Many said it was the highlight of their day.
We then enjoyed a scenic walk across the fields to the organic farm, where our guests were given a guided tour. They even got to plant seeds that will grow into vegetables later this summer—another beautiful way to engage with the land.
The day concluded with a delicious, wholesome feast shared by all. There was a strong sense of community, and many new friendships were formed. The retreat brought together people of all ages—children, adults, and elders—in a joyful, educational, and meaningful way.
This retreat is part of Krishna Wisdom, an initiative that began over 10 years ago at Bhaktivedanta Manor to engage a broader and more diverse audience—especially those new to or unfamiliar with the Krishna tradition. It was a collaborative effort between Krishna Wisdom, the Goshala, and the Manor’s organic farm.
Photos and video testimonials captured the spirit of the day: learning, laughter, service, and spiritual connection—all wrapped up in a beautiful, natural setting. We look forward to many more retreats like this in the future.
