These 3 secrets of meditation will transform your life
3. Meditation – it’s easier than you think!
We’re often trained in life to put more effort in order to acheive something. Well, I’m here to tell you something different today.
With meditation, the less effort you put, the better. And if you can let go of all effort, you’ve succeeded.
The mind is often compared to a mad intoxicated monkey. You can’t just tie these guys down and expect them to be quiet. You have to give them some limited freedom and let them naturally calm down after exploring everything. The mind is exactly like that. You have to allow it to do whatever it wants by not paying any attention to it.
So here are some basic steps to help you meditate. I’m not going to guide you through a meditation process as there are thousands of them all over youtube, and none of them will ever work because there is no such thing as ‘one size fits all’ when it comes to meditation. Don’t complicate the process of meditation. It’s meant to be simple. Everyone is different, and by trying these techniques over time you’ll build a picture of your how your mind works and figure out your own method of taming your wild monkey. Try these out, and adjust them as you see fit. Read through and understand them beforehand, and you can try them out in your own time later.[pullquote]Meditation is as easy as A-B-C-D[/pullquote]
Adapt your position: If you need to drink water, use the loo, put your baby to sleep or switch your cooker off, do it now. Then get into your comfortable chair or cushion and get comfortable. Keep your back straight, but not tense. Keep your palms rested on your knees. Relax your body. Make sure you’re comfortable enough so you can sit in that position for at least 10 minutes. Don’t lie on an armchair or on your bed. Be comfortable, but alert.
Build up some energy: We don’t breathe enough fresh oxygen. Build up some energy. Take a few deep breaths through your nose and out through your mouth. Do it till you feel refreshed.
Cultivate self-awareness: Close your eyes slowly and become aware of the sensations of your body. Scan your body from top to bottom and build up a picture of how it feels. Become aware of where your body contacts the floor and how your palms contact your knees. Don’t try to change anything. Just become aware and build up a picture.
Develop resilience: This is when you have to let go and allow things to be what they are. Listen to sounds around you. These sounds are not really a distraction unless you want them to be. Just hear and become aware of them. Don’t try to judge, analyse or get involved with them. Just hear. Watch the cars come and go. Don’t chase them or try to control them. Your mind will go away and this is normal. Don’t fight it or argue with it. Just bring it back to the sounds. Just become aware of everything around you and surrender to it. You don’t have to do anything about it. Just let it be. Do this for as long as you feel comfortable for.
You will find that you will feel a lot more peaceful after this.
Detaching yourself from the drama of the mind is the art of meditation.
When you surrender to what’s happening around you, you become peaceful. When you try to control it, you become anxious. It’s simple.
